Great Value for Storage Amount
I bought the 320 GB MyBook about 6 weeks ago and have had absolutely no problems with it. It was very simple to use; I just plugged it into an open USB and it was ready to go. It comes with optional softare that I chose not to install. For just under $100, I found it to be a great value for enough storage space to backup my iPod and music folder as well as store all of my video files.
Not For Everyone
Just like the other fella said, this body has the sleak black polish look that sratches easily if you’re not careful. It also is annoying when you get fingerprints all over it!
I bought it at target for 90 bucks, not a bad deal eh? Still I’d have preferred a normal body and not this crappy passport style one, I mean who uses this kinda cheap plastic?
For the price can’t be beat, for the other factor of the body it is lousy. My advice is simple, maybe buy this and put it under your desk somewhere but don’t clean it with a towel or anything use a micro fiber cloth isntead as it provides the least amount of chance to scratch the surface. Seems to work ok then.
It is quiet
if only the body was not this horribly annoying plastic polish look, oh well.
Go for the 500gb USB, Firewire, eSata one
I bought this HD in October of 2007. After about 2 months it started making severe screeching noises randomly. Last week it started doing it non stop. WD’s warranty blows! You have to send them the HD back before they will send you a new one. There is an option to have them send you one first, but they put a hold on your credit card for the amount of the HD. You also have to pay shipping, which sucks. They should replace their defective product. I got a nice guy at Best Buy who let me exchange it yesterday. I stepped up to the WD 500gb USB, Firewire, eSata drive for $15 more. My friend has had the 500gb WD HD for a year with no problems. I just seems like it’s alot better quality. Don’t buy this 320gb drive!
Easy setup and easy to use, but slow
This took all of two minutes to set up. It popped up as a drive on XP. I reformatted to NTFS first thing - which took about 45 minutes. Yes, it takes a while to transfer data, but I’m using it for backup only, not as a frequently accessed drive.
Backup
The MyBook worked out of box and performed as advertised. I recommend the product highly and the price was very was very good at $90. I was able to backup data on 3 computers in a very short time period. The product is about the size of a large book and can be transported with ease.
